Girls Varsity Soccer
Thursday night Aptos travelled to Santa Cruz to battle for the lead in the SCCAL girls soccer league. With Santa Cruz just ahead of Aptos in the standings, both teams knew they had to come out strong. Aptos stepped up to the challenge and senior captains Brynn Mitchell and Aubree Westjohn worked together to allow Westjohn a goal within the first 3 minutes. Within the 18th minute, sophmore Malia Kessler assisted Westjohn in her second goal of the night. Santa Cruz had multiple dangerous chances along with a penalty that sophmore keeper, Kylie Nelson, saved. Nelson throughout this game saved over 12 chances from Santa Cruz. In the last minute of the game, Santa Cruz had a breakaway that resulted in a goal. Due to the many chances, this game could have ended in favor of either team. However, Aptos ended up on top and are now in the lead.
