Girls Varsity Soccer
After losing to St. Christopher High School due to penalty kicks in the CCS Semifinals, Aptos was ready and continued to battle until the final whistle, finishing their first game of the season with a 1-1 draw Tuesday night. The first half entailed immense amounts of grueling defense from both teams to keep the scoreboard clean until the second half, when St. Christopher scored within the first 30 seconds. This goal woke up the Aptos team, who for the rest of the game, pressured St. Christopher’s defense. In the 19th minute of the second half, sophomore center defender Rowan Bowyer, received the ball at half and attacked straight through the middle up the field. Bowyer proceeded to get past multiple St. Christopher players and make her way into the 6 yard box to finish in the bottom left corner of the goal to tie up the game. The crowd continued to be on the edge of their seats as Aptos kept the momentum from their previous goal and had one last chance within the final minute of the game when senior captain, Brynn Mitchell, drove a shot towards the bottom corner of the goal. Both Aptos players and fans thought that they had the game but the goal missed just wide and directly after the final whistle blew.
