Karen Stakkestad

Hall of Fame Class of 2005

Karen Stakkestad (class of 1979) – Karen was born to Jim and Claire Stakkestad, and her father was one of the original Cabrillo College Faculty members. At Aptos, Karen was a four-year varsity athlete in basketball, softball, and tennis, and her teams won a total of seven SCCAL championships (three each in tennis and basketball, and one in softball). Karen was All-League in both basketball and softball, and she was the Santa Cruz Sentinel’s Female Athlete-of-the-Year in 1979. She was also valedictorian of her senior class. Karen matriculated to Pacific Lutheran University, where she starred in basketball and tennis. She played in three NAIA national team tennis finals, and earned Academic All-American honors in tennis. Karen completed graduate school at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and today she is a math instructor at College of the Desert. She is married to Steve Dostal, and they have two children, Claire and Erica. Karen was presented into the Hall by her husband Steve.
