Rick Downey (class of 1975) – Rick, one of the hardest-hitters to play football at Aptos, was a first-team selection at both guard and linebacker on the Santa Cruz Sentinel’s All-County 25^th Anniversary Team. Rick was an All-League and All-CCS football player, and he was the MBL’s Lineman-of-the-Year his senior year. Rick was also the “National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame” scholarship winner for Santa Cruz County his senior year, he was the Aptos High School Male Athlete-of-the-Year, and he was selected to the Aptos High 25^th Anniversary All-Time Football Team. In addition, Rick led the golf team to three MBL championships, and he once held several course records at the Seascape Golf Course. Rick matriculated to Santa Clara University, where he was a starting linebacker for three years. Rick is married to Kelly, and they have a son Bret. Rick was presented into the Hall by longtime sportswriter, Ed Vyeda.
