Announcements and Important Events
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the AHS Girls Track & Field Team won the SCCAL Championship. Competing against an expanded 10-team SC County league due to Covid, the Girls scored 129 points, SLV was second with 109 points, and Soquel third with 78 points. Monte Vista Christian and Scotts Valley rounded-out the Top 5.
The Mariners were led by Junior Elizabeth Churchill, who won the 100mH in a CCS best-time of 16.63. Elizabeth also took second in the HJ, LJ, and TJ. Junior Ali Oliver also earned three seconds in the 4x100, 100m, and 200m. Senior Susana Estrada earned a third and a fourth in the 3200m and 1600m respectively, and Sophomore Lena Manchester scored in three events, third in the LJ, fourth in the 100mH, and fifth in the HJ.
Other Top 5 medalists include Kira Evans (5th in both the 100mH and 300mH), Rachel Hoops (4th in the 400m), Annie Eikemeyer (3rd in the 800m), Kaitlyn LaRue (5th in the 200m), Kirsten Martin (5th in the 3200m), Izzy Rodrigues (4th in the TJ), and Kate Wolsfeld (2nd in both SP and Discus). The 4x400 relay also finished second.
Monte Vista Christian won the boys title with 116 points. Aptos was second with 90 points, and SLV was third with 66 points. Junior Wade Watson won the SP with a throw of 46'1", and he was second in the Discus (130'8"). Other multiple AHS medalists include Ben Laughlin, John Eikemeyer, and Aidan Tomasini (1600m and 3200m), and Lukas Rettenwender (200m and LJ) and Tosh Woods (HJ and TJ).
In addition, the Frosh-Soph Boys also won their SCCAL Championship, and the JV Girls finished third.
