After Long Pandemic Layoff, Aptos Track Wins First SCCAL Dual Meet in Two Years!

The last time the AHS Boys and Girls Track & Field Team competed in an SCCAL dual meet was in the Spring of 2019. They only competed in one meet last year, the County Relays, before the season was shut-down. Hence, there was with both trepidation and excitement when the Mariners took to the track yesterday against Watsonville and St. Francis High Schools.

The results were all-Aptos!

The Boys Team beat Watsonville 94-35, and they beat St. Francis 101-5. The Girls Team beat Watsonville 90-36, and they beat St. Francis 121-0.

Leading the boys were double-winners Sean Harvey (100m, 200m) and Tosh Woods (TJ, HJ). Isaiah Banuelos (discus) and Wade Wilson (SP) swept the throwing events, and Chase Jaques-Maynes (3200m), Ben Laughlin (1600m), Trent Nosky (800m), and Jack Kilian (400m) completed an Aptos sweep of the distance events. Team Captain Lukas Rettenwender surprised the field in the LJ and won with a PR 18'5 1/2".

The girls were led by triple-winner Elizabeth Churchill (LJ, TJ, HJ) and double-winners Kate Wolsfeld (SP, discus) and Ali Oliver (100m, 200m). Frosh Kira Evans won the 300mH, and Brooke Willoughby won the 3200m.

Congratulations to all the tracksters, the Mariners, the Wildcatz, and the Sharks, and good luck throughout the season.
